So this extension thing attaches on the end of a gas powerwasher nozzle. The other end goes into your bucket of blasting sand. I used about 2 50lb bags of sand and blasted my front axle of my Jeep. Something I’ve been putting off for some time. Now although there is the surface flash rust starting again this is a much better surface to prep for the POR15 I have planned. Took about 2 hours because I ran out of gas. It was really hard to see even with a hard hat & face shield, so I have a little bit of wire brushing to do, but nothing like I would have had to do if I hadn’t sandblasted it.
5/10 would use again on something I need paint off of. And prep for paint. But super messy because all the sand has to go somewhere and thus why I did it at my work. I also don’t own a gas powerwasher, but there is some at work.
I guess I had the nozzle upside down because the wet sand kept clogging the hose. After unclogging twice I worked it out and didn’t need to again.

That looks excellent!
Definitely beats attacking it with a wire wheel or angle grinder.

I did the rear axle with an angle grinder wire wheel as it’s leaf spring perches. And pretty straight. This Had a lot of tight spaces that made it easier.

Did you get a price for having it blasted by a blaster business?

I did not. This was $36 and $9/ bag of sand.

Did you capture the sand, or did you have to sweep it up?

It’s all in the back lot at work below the loading dock. It was soaking wet along with my clothes. I’ll probably pick up what I can when it all dries out.
I asked permission to do so from the warehouse manager and he didn’t care, “ the black sand will blend into the lot. “

There You go. My friend has an equipment yard that’s a dirt lot and he sandblasts out there, but his compressor isn’t fully up to the task I don’t think. He’s got an old school bucket with a hose on the end of a spray nozzle kind of thing. But he sprays in that lot and he sandblasts in that lot and he steam cleans in that lot and I think someday he’s going to retire and have a EPA super fund site.

I had this axle built and trussed around 2005 so most of this was just rust because I never painted it.
